Brief introduction of the National Graduate Education Steering Committee
for Professional Engineering Degree
In December 1998, in order to meet the needs of the development of master's degree in engineering, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council , the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security decided to set up National Engineering Master Degree education Steering Committee. The Education Steering Committee (ESC) is an organization of the expert guidance and consulting of the National Engineering Master Degree Education under the leadership of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education. Its main functions are: to guide and coordinate the activities of the education of master of engineering (M. Eng), supervise the quality of the education of master of M. Eng, drive communication and cooperation between the education of M. Eng and enterprise engineering technology and management personnel construction, guide to carry out international exchanges and cooperation in the education of M. Eng, to promote the continuous development and improvement of the education of M. Eng in China.
Following the first, second and third session of the ESC, the Fourth Education Steering Committee was established in December 2013. And the “National Engineering Master Degree education Steering Committee” was renamed to the “National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional Engineering Degree”. There are 38 members of the ESC, the headmaster of Tsinghua University, Yong Qiu as the chairman of the committee. The Education Steering Committee Secretariat affiliated to the Tsinghua University.
The ESC through investigation, on-the-spot investigation and consulting guidance and so on, makes experts play active roles, and brainstorms suggestions for promoting the professional engineering degree of graduate education comprehensive, sustainable development. Practice has proved that the establishment of the ESC not only has produced significant influence on the development of our professional engineering degree graduate education, but also has played an important guarantee role on the quality of postgraduate education of the professional engineering degree, marking that the professional engineering degree in graduate education has entered a new stage of development.
